“Das ist deine Welt!
Das heist eine Welt!”
- Goethe’s Faust
The body:
illness and fluids
held by skin.
Lymph, blood, air,
these circulate
only to stop,
the lifeworld appears
to vanish.
So the body.
The fallen say,
I am health,
the corpus of life,
but the despondent
tell their sick knowledge:
I am death,
the process of decay
unraveling itself in events,
excess in downfall.
What a world,
and such a world,
that we should die!
