Showbill

Blessed be God who changes the creatures
our God who also is changeful

who appears to us in what costumes s/he likes
fetus or bush or plainclothes traveler

whose face crawls with amusing monsters
winged bears and insect angels

who transfigures our bodies
salt from nostalgia pride into worms

whose taste for the picaresque
attaches itself to each ass jaw in scripture

& whose showbill does not come off
like that of any comedy we know.
